Our operation in the bbs bistro

Once a week, the students of the production class, a class of the vocational preparation year (BVJ), prepare lunch under the commercial conditions of a canteen kitchen. On Tuesday lunchtime, warm, healthy meals are served, consisting of a main course in a normal and a vegetarian variant, and a dessert and a drink. The order runs in advance in the days before. The students are looked after by the class teacher Claudia Ebert (teacher for specialist practice) and Bettina Guttmann (home economics master), as well as in the area of social pedagogy by Melanie Greiner. Gesa Schüttel heads the project. In 2019, the bbs bistro was awarded the environmental prize of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate by Minister Ulrike Höfken in Mainz.
Our story The idea of the production class comes from Denmark. There are production schools there that are supposed to promote the socialization of young people. In 2005, the production class was introduced at the BBS Germersheim, Wörth location. The opening took place on May 9th, 2006. The financial resources came from the EQUAL program of the European Social Fund and from the district administration of Germersheim. At the end of 2006 this funding expired. Because of the great success, the school tried to run the bbs bistro from its own resources. The project could only be kept alive through voluntary and unpaid extra work by the teachers involved in the project. At the beginning of the 2008/2009 school year, the bbs bistro was able to reopen with a strengthened team thanks to a generous donation from Star Care Rheinland-Pfalz eV. The project is funded by the state of Rhineland-Palatinate, Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs, Transformation and Digitization.
